Army veteran's dog plays big part in rehabilitation

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — A dog has played a large role in the rehabilitation of an Army veteran who lost his leg to a roadside bomb while serving in Baghdad.

Nick Rempp served his country for 10 years until he lost his leg. Rempp’s 7-year-old dog, Ike, has played a big role in his rehabilitation.%

“It's been a good way to rehab and take my mind off what happened, and help me move on too,” Rempp said.

Rempp became a dog handler after he had the opportunity to work with the military’s working dog corps, and now trains dogs in Beaver County.

The pair won this year’s U.S. Mondio-Ring Association Nationals in Salt Lake City. Mondio-Ring is a type of dog sport that tests a dog’s abilities to protect itself and its handler, even with extreme distractions.%

Rempp and Ike are one of six teams to advance to the next level. The two will represent the U.S. next month in Belgium in the World Cup. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with the cost of travel and can be found HERE.
